RUN - TECHNIQUE / ENDURANCE

  • 30 Steps

About

Technique / Endurance Block This training block focuses on developing base fitness, efficiency, and technical proficiency - the foundation for all higher-intensity work you will find in the THRESHOLD and MAP blocks. The emphasis is on sustained aerobic efforts below LT1 (first lactate threshold), where breathing remains controlled and movement smooth. It’s steady, consistent training that builds aerobic capacity, muscular endurance, and sound running mechanics without tipping into fatigue. Work in this zone should feel comfortably challenging but sustainable - a pace where you can maintain rhythm and good form for extended periods while staying mentally calm and physically in control. Sessions aim to refine movement quality and efficiency as much as they build endurance. Training will combine long continuous runs, steady endurance efforts, and technique-focused drills and skills that reinforce efficient posture, stride, and cadence. Expect sessions that blend easy aerobic running with skill work - such as form cues, strides, and drills to enhance coordination and economy. The goal is to build a durable aerobic engine and technical consistency: smoother mechanics, better energy use, and improved fatigue resistance over time. By mastering control and efficiency at sub-threshold effort, you’ll develop the endurance and form that underpin faster, more demanding training and racing later in the season, moving well, staying relaxed, and maintaining quality from start to finish.
