About
Middle Distance Triathlon Specificity Training Block This Middle Distance Triathlon Specificity Training Block is designed to support triathletes in the ten weeks leading up to a middle-distance event, such as a T100, 70.3, or similar format. This block complements the wider selection of single-discipline sessions available on this website, slotting seamlessly alongside your ongoing swim, bike, and run training. Before beginning this block, you should already be consistently training each discipline at least once per week. It’s essential to maintain your regular swim, bike, and run structure while adding these sessions, but you can also swap out some of them for this, too. For example, replace a run or bike with a BIKE/RUN in here, or replace a swim or bike with a SWIM/BIKE session in here. Across the block, athletes will complete one middle-distance specificity session per week, overall designed to replicate the unique physiological, technical, and mental demands of racing 70.3/T100/middle distance. These sessions progressively develop your ability to sustain race-appropriate intensity, manage fatigue across disciplines, and refine your execution under simulated race conditions. The specificity sessions include: - Race-intensity brick sessions - Middle-distance power or heart-rate targets - Transition practice - Generally strategy planning This plan will ensure you arrive on race day with a precise, rehearsed race strategy. Thoughtful periodisation is key. If you’re unsure how to combine blocks effectively, you’re welcome to book a consultation for tailored guidance.
