SWIM - TECHNIQUE / ENDURANCE

  • 24 Steps

About

In this block, we’ll be dialling into the fine details of swimming technique — the foundations that make every stroke more efficient and powerful. Technique work isn’t about swimming slowly; it’s about swimming deliberately. We’ll be breaking down elements like body alignment, kick timing, catch mechanics, rotation, and breathing rhythm so you can build smoother, more economical movement through the water. Good form is the gateway to speed, and this phase gives you the space to refine it. Sessions will combine focused drill progressions, controlled swimming with specific cues, and short repeats that allow you to think and feel each technical change. Expect sets that reinforce posture and balance, develop feel for the water in the catch and pull, and strengthen timing across all phases of the stroke. Rest will be used smartly to prioritise quality over quantity, helping you stay switched on and maintain precise movement patterns rather than slipping into autopilot. The aim of this block is to upgrade efficiency, rhythm, and confidence in your stroke so every metre becomes easier and faster. Strong technique not only improves speed but also reduces wasted energy — a crucial advantage in longer triathlon swims where control and consistency matter most. By sharpening your mechanics now, you'll set yourself up to swim more powerfully in future training blocks and race with better form, less effort, and greater efficiency in open water.
