About

Standard Distance Triathlon Specificity Training Block This Standard Distance Triathlon Specificity Training Block is designed to support triathletes in the ten weeks leading up to a standard-distance event, such as an Olympic triathlon or similar format. This block sits alongside the broader range of single-discipline sessions available on this website, working harmoniously with your current swim, bike, and run training structure. Before beginning this block, you should already be training each discipline at least once per week. It’s important to maintain your established weekly routine while integrating these sessions; you can also choose to swap out selected sessions for the ones provided here. For example, replace a standalone run with a BIKE/RUN brick from this block, or substitute a swim with a SWIM/BIKE session to better mirror race demands. Across the block, athletes will complete one standard-distance specificity session per week, each designed to replicate the physiological, technical, and tactical requirements of Olympic-distance racing. These sessions progressively build your ability to sustain intensity above aerobic threshold, handle rapid discipline changes, and execute efficiently under race-like conditions. The specificity sessions include: - Race-intensity brick sessions - Threshold-oriented power or pace targets - Transition practice and efficiency - Race-day strategy refinement By following this block, you’ll arrive on the start line with a clear pacing approach, practised skills, and confidence in your ability to manage the sharper, more sustained efforts required for standard-distance racing. Thoughtful periodisation is essential to maximising your performance. If you're unsure how to integrate this block into your overall plan, you’re welcome to book a consultation for tailored guidance.
