The Open Water Swimathon is a charity event. The idea is two-fold: 1. to give you, open water swimmers and triathletes, the opportunity to challenge yourself to swim a distance or pace in the sea. 2. to raise some funds for charity! In 2025 we will be setting out a 500m square course in the sea, just to the left of the pier when looking out to sea at Teignmouth beach. Organising everyone and safety cover. Starting at 1730 (for 13-18year olds) and 1830 (for adults), on 9th August 2025. You can choose your distance (in multiples of 500m), from 0.5 to 5km. You do the counting and we do the timing and provide a swim badge for your efforts. Children must be 13-18years old to enter and this and it will be ran as a coached session with a maximum of 20 swimmers per wave. If you/your child is 13-14 one lap is the maximum. If you/your child is 15-18 its limited to 1500m (three laps). All younger swimmers (13-18year olds) start at 1730, under coach supervision, and it is compulsory for a parent or guardian to be within line of sight. After the swim everyone can collect a badge for their efforts. Children have a maximum of 1hr to complete up-to the maximum distance offered. Adults have two hours to complete your swim. Don't worry though, you can change the distance on the day either before or during, and still be a completer! Which charities are benefitting? TBSLSC - the local surf lifesaving club responsible for training up lifeguards and preventing incidents at sea. ATSS - a local charity set up to support over 50's start up open water swimming. Pancreatic Cancer UK - a national charity supporting families affected by pancreatic cancer and right now, trying to make early diagnosis a realities which will prevent many deaths. By taking part you don't only get to challenge and better yourself, you also help the chosen charities AND get a swim badge for your efforts!
