The Open Water Swimathon is a charity event. The idea is two-fold: 1. to give you, open water swimmers and triathletes, the opportunity to challenge yourself to swim a distance or pace in the sea on a measured course with competitors and safety cover. 2. to raise some funds for charity. The 2026 Open Water Swimathon is on a 500m rectangle course in the sea, just to the left of the pier when looking out to sea at Teignmouth beach. Starting at 0800. You can choose your distance (in multiples of 500m), from 500m to 5000m. You do the counting, and we do the timing and provide a swim badge for your efforts. You have two hours to complete your swim. Don't worry, though, you can change the distance on the day, either before or during, and still be a completer! Which charities are benefiting? TBSLSC - the local surf lifesaving club responsible for training up lifeguards and preventing incidents at sea. ATSS - a local charity set up to support over-50s start-up open water swimming. Rowcroft Hospice - a local charity that supports adults living with life-limiting illnesses in South Devon. By taking part, you don't only get to challenge and better yourself, you also help the chosen charities AND get a swim badge for your efforts!
